I loathe dealers who do this. No, none of these should be popping up when searching C rai gs list for “4runner|land cruiser”. It’s bad enough when private sellers do it, but since dealer’s post their entire inventory with the same keyword spam block everything comes up.

I’m not sure how much of this is “dealer is trying to spam CL so everything comes up no matter what you search for" vs "dealer is too lazy to write custom keywords for each listing so they just copy and paste the whole thing."

also on the list should be dealers who post vehicles on Auto Trader listing a “manual” transmission when the car actually has an auto.

Call them up for each one and ask about the , for example, 2002 Highlander Land Cruiser 4wd fully loaded for $5500 and then tell them what a great deal it is for a Land Cruiser and that you’ve never heard of that trim level , and that the picture is wrong online.

How did I never think to use that?

True, but the end result is the same.

Never even thought about using that before...I feel dumb.

I could, but I don’t really care if I buy from a dealer or a private seller.

I know, and I do hate it. Just was wondering how much of it was intentional shittiness vs laziness.

As others said, “titles only” is like, the only way to search Craigslist.

Unless the ad says something like “Just bought a new 4Runner, so we have teo sell this car.” or some other combination that innocently mentions what you are actually
looking for, flag every one of them for removal.

It isn obvious if you search for cars mainly.
You think itd be cars with titles only.
And it does cull people who list as one thing and then explain details in the description.
The thing i need to solve is how to block certain sellers on ebay that keep popping up in my saved search with unrelated items that have refreshed postings every day.

I've shared this story before, but sometimes that works the opposite way and you find a manual that other people missed out on by not opening up the search parameters. My Miata was listed as automatic despite being a 5 speed. I was friends with someone at the dealership and he confirmed it was manual. I later met the man in charge of writing the online listings. He was old, semi-retired, and did not care about his job at all. It suddenly made sense.
